ZLS membership is open to all advocates and notaries public registered under the relevant laws of Zanzibar, together with all persons registered and admitted under the Zanzibar Law Society Act. The Society currently has between 300 and 400 practising and non-practising members.

Distinguished persons appointed by the Council for life or a defined period. Not required to pay any subscription.
All members enjoy the same rights. Practising members may vote at General Assemblies; only a practising member resident in Zanzibar is eligible for election to the Council.
Fixed from time to time by the Council and payable by members prior to the Society's Annual General Assembly each year.
The Council may suspend, expel or deprive a member of their rights on grounds prescribed under the Society's Rules, only after a reasonable opportunity to answer any allegations.
